When something unexpected happens in our lives, just like in the movies, everyone and everything freezes, and the soundtrack playing in the background stops abruptly with the record scratch sound of a needle across a vinyl album.
It is inevitable that we will all experience disruptive “record scratch” moments in our life. These big record scratch moments require resiliency to move forward, for we are never the same.
My record scratch moment was when my son Jake died in a car accident on February 19, 2022. He was 16. It’s been over a year since that fateful day which completely disrupted my life and it’s been only recently that I have rediscovered my voice.
Trauma recovery is not a D-I-Y situation. I know that I required a ton of help. I leaned heavily on my partner to help me, and there have been therapies, and friends to help me along my healing journey.
A few of these very important individuals have already been guests on my podcast, Finding Joy with Kara (see Iva Nasr, Charles Crenshaw, Jr., and Graehm Hall episodes), and Record Scratch will feature others who have helped me along my journey to adapt and incorporate grief into my life as I move forward with Jake in my heart.
But these interviews aren’t about my journey. My guests and I focus on resiliency, and how we move forward and heal from trauma. I hope you will listen when these episodes drop!
